Under National Employment Standards (NES), workers have the right to request flexible working arrangements to manage personal issues such as parental / carer responsibilities.

This is great for workers – however, if the employer says NO to this request, there is no other avenue for the worker but to accept the decision.

There is not yet a guaranteed dispute resolution mechanism that would enable workers to have the decision of the employer reviewed and determined independently.

Time for some more reform in this area!
